Hospital needs to save around £22m

Derriford hospital bosses are to be told they need to save around £22 million over the next financial year.

Plymouth Hospitals NHS trust planned to make £30 million savings in 2011/2012.

Hundreds of posts were cut, there was a reduction in beds and two operating theatres were closed but Derriford hospital say many of the 258 posts cut were through not filling vacancies.

76 people were made redundant.

The hospital's board meets this morning to discuss the budget for the next financial year in which its thought they will need to save around £22 million but there aren't any details on where the savings will be made and it's not yet clear is if this will mean further redundancies.
