High speed winds cause damage to city

The extent of the damage caused by last night's extreme weather's becoming evident in Plymouth this morning.

High speed winds have blown down trees across the city - Underlane in Plymstock has been blocked by a fallen tree for much of the morning.

The centre lane of the Tamar Bridge was closed, causing major delays for motorists and high-sided vehicles were advised to avoid crossing.

Brittany Ferries cancelled some of its services to and from France, as the conditions were considered 'unsafe'.

Some city homes were left without any power for much of the night.

The Met office still has weather warnings in place for this morning and motorists are being advised to take extra care.
