Government minister to open new department at university

The Minister for Climate Change will be in Plymouth today to officially open a new research institute at the university.

The Institute for Sustainability Solutions Research (ISSR) will provide support within the university as well as a 'one stop shop' for external organisations on sustainability research.

It will pull together the expertise of around 200 academics across a range of disciplines including health, carbon management and climate change.

Gregory Barker MP will today unveil a plaque to mark the official opening of the centre - he'll also be discussing the plans for the south west marine energy park with leaders of the university, which will play a vital role in the park.
