Give us more time, say residents near incinerator site

The city council's being urged to give Plymothians more time to digest the planning application for a waste incinerator at Devonport dockyard.

MVV, the company behind the plans, have submitted their 3000-page document to the council but locals only have until the 21st of June to object, if they wish to.

Campaigners say that's not long enough to take in the information so they'll be rallying outside the Guildhall today, where MVV are hosting a public exhibition.

The planning application refers to a number of concerns expressed by local residents but Helen Keats from campaign group 'Incineration is Wrong' says they're still not convinced that an incinerator won't have a significant impact on health, traffic or the environment.

MVV's exhibition today starts at 10:30am and the rally begins at 12noon followed by a march through the city centre.
