Former Plymouth teacher banned for two years for misconduct

A Plymouth teacher has been banned from teaching in schools for at least two years.

The general teaching council found Kevin Sellwood guilty of 'unacceptable professional conduct' at a hearing in Birmingham.

Kevin Sellwood was accused of using school computers to engage in inappropriate sexual correspondence.

It dates back to June 2006 when he was a teacher at Ridgeway school.

Mr Sellwood admitted the allegations in March of this year.

The General Teaching Council found that children in his supervision were exposed to what they described as 'grossly indecent text'.

They say Mr Sellwood was also breaching the school and local authority's internet policy by using it for this purpose.

The GTC issued a prohibition order, which means he is no longer eligible to register as a teacher - and cannot teach in schools.

But after a period of two years, he'll be entitled to apply for his eligibility to be restored.

The order takes effect immediately.
