Former Plymouth nurse will have to be supervised, says NMC

A former Plymouth nurse who gave the wrong medication to a patient will have to be supervised in her work for the next eighteen months.

In February 2009, the council for nursing and midwifery says that Sandra Bailey gave the wrong tablets to a patient and then failed to report the matter to anyone else.

She also asked the patient concerned not to say anything.

The panel says it took into account the fact that no physical harm came to the patient and that this was an isolated incident in Ms Bailey's career but they said ms Bailey had not engaged with the hearing and that they weren't convicned she had taken any steps to ensure this wouldn't happen again - they add that her desire to cover up her mistake was a serious error of judgement.

Ms Bailey has been issued with a conditions of practice order, which means for the next eighteen months she must be supervised and show the NMC that she has worked on her knowledge of drug administration and reporting untoward incidents.
