Former headteacher sentenced for sexual assaults on children

A former Plymouth headteacher is starting a seven year prison sentence today for sexually assaulting some of the pupils in his care.

Neil Dyer, formerly known as Geoffrey Burley, was found guilty of 25 counts of sexual assault earlier this month.

Yesterday he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment and will remain on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

The offences date back to the 1970s when he was the headteacher of Widey court primary school - some of the offences took place on school camping trips.

The incidents involved 13 boys, a girl and a nineteen year old man.
