Families of sailors on HMS Ocean angry at not receiving operational allowance

Some of the families of those serving on board Plymouth based HMS Ocean say they're angry that they are not receiving an operational allowance while they're in libya.

The carrier is currently serving off Libya and apache helicopters are taking part in air strikes from the vessel.

Their families say as they are involved in operations, are subject to a communications black out and all under 18s have been flown home, they should be considered operational.

Apache pilots are receiving the allowance.

It amounts to just under thirty pounds a day, which families say would make a huge difference.

The MOD says operational allowance is governed by risk and is only given to those who are facing an increased threat or have had their living conditions curtailed by their deployment -they say this is not the case for HMS Ocean.
