Extra police on patrol over the bank holiday period

There will be extra police on patrol in Plymouth this Bank holiday weekend and officers are warning revellers not to overdo it.

Devon and Cornwall police say as there are two bank holidays in quick succession and extended opening hours on the day of the Royal wedding, they are prepared for a possible increase in violence.

The force may be shedding 1200 posts, but have assured the public there will be an increased police presence in problem areas such as Union Street and the Barbican, and in towns like Saltash, Torpoint and Looe.

Locals are being advised not to try and keep up with their friends when it comes to alcohol, to drink plenty of water and to nominate a designated driver.
