East End transport scheme took its toll, say traders

Three businesses have gone bust since the roadworks on Gdynia way and the east end of the city began last year.

The new outbound lane on Gdynia way and the Embankment lane link road have opened overnight after 18 months under construction.

But many firms at Faraday Mill business park in Cattedown say they've lost significant amounts of money.

Mike Hockin chairs London Westcountry, which owns Faraday Mill - he says the cost has been very high as those who've lost their businesses have also lost their homes.

The city council says the work will boost businesses in the long run because it will ease congestion by up to half in some areas and will improve access.

It's all part of the authority's plans for growth.
