Dockyard workers to be balloted over pay deal

Dockyard workers will be balloted over the next two days on whether to accept a pay deal.

Thousands of workers will be asked whether they accept plans for a payout instead of a pay rise.

Staff would receive one thousand pounds this year and nine hundred pounds next year.

But unions say this amounts to a pay freeze and is unfair.

If unions don't accept the agreement today, they will be balloted on whether to take further action.

But at this stage it's too early to say whether this will lead to strikes.
