Devon lifeguards prepare for busy Bank Holiday

Lifeguards patrolling Devon's beaches this Bank holiday say they want to avoid any further rise in the number of call outs they are receiving.

In 2010, the number of incidents rose 240% compared with 2009.

The advice is to ask coastguards for tidal information and to swim between the red and yellow flags.

Just yesterday a man and a woman were rescued near Port Wrinkle after they were cut off by the tide.

Crews say now that wetsuit technology is getting better, many more people are also venturing into the sea when the weather is poor.

The advice is to ask lifeguards for tide times and to swim between the red and yellow flags.
