Devon businessman leads race to takeover Plymouth Argyle

Devon businessman James Brent has formally announced that he is interested in making an offer for Plymouth Argyle.

Mr Brent is head of the Akkeron group, an asset management group which also runs a number of hotels.

In a statement today he says he is in discussions with the club about a possible offer, but that that will depend on agreements being reached with other stakeholders.

It's already known that one sticking point to discussions has been Mastpoint, the group run by former directors Sir Roy Gardner and Keith Todd. They have refused to unsecure their mortgages on the stadium so far.

In a separate statement, administrator Brendan Guilfoyle has said he welcomes the interest shown by Akkeron and that he would encourage everyone to engage with them in a constructive manner to save the club.
