Defence cuts 'necessary' says city MP

A Plymouth MP says cuts to the Armed forces were necessary to balance the country's defence books.

Yesterday a vigil was held in the city by families angry at plans to cut 17 army units.

Sutton and Devonport MP Oliver Colvile says a thirty eight billion pound deficit had to be tackled and that the armed forces have been evolving for decades.

He says the plan is to redeploy some of the personnel and that others will still have good job prospects.
