Decision due on toilet charges in Plymouth

Shoppers in Armada Way could soon have to pay to use the public toilets there.

The proposal's due to be discussed by city councillors today.

The local authority plans to refurbish and modernise the loos, but it will cost them half a million pounds.

They say charging users 20 pence a visit would mean they could employ a member of staff on site, which would make the toilets safer and cleaner.

Meanwhile glass could soon be collected as part of Plymouth's recycling.

The cabinet will discuss whether to trial the glass collections at 15,000 homes from September 2012.

The city has an average recycling rate of just thirty three per cent at the moment and the local authority wants to up this to forty per cent over the next few years.
