Dance Academy boss to appeal conviction

A Plymouth night club owner who was jailed for allowing class A drugs to be sold on his premises is to have his conviction re examined.

Dance Academy owner Manoucehr Bahmanzadeh has now served four years of a nine year sentence.

His lawyers appealed in 2008 and lost, but then referred it to the criminal cases review commission in January last year.

They have now decided to refer the case to the court of appeal because they believe new evidence around witness testimony could lead to it being quashed.

Mr Bahmanzadeh consistently denied the charges and argued he had never allowed drugs to be sold there and had not turned a blind eye.

Lawyers acting for the night club owner will review the papers today, but say they are absolutely delighted.

Devon and Cornwall Police have not been available for comment.
