Council tax is frozen for 2012/13

Council tax has been frozen in Plymouth for the second year running.

City councillors have this afternoon voted to accept a government grant of £2.4 million to freeze it.

They've also approved plans to save around seven million pounds over the next financial year - most of the savings will be made when buying in goods and services.

The money's only available for one year though so councillors had to decide whether they could accept the grant and use it for one-off issues.

Cabinet member for finance, councillor Ian Bowyer, says some of the money is going to be spent on keeping the ice rink at the Pavilions open until there are more permanent provisions put in place. That will cost around £800,000.
