Council plans to save £8M to be complete in New Year

A final budget by Plymouth City Council detailing ways to save eight million pounds in Plymouth over the next year will be complete in February.

More than 1000 people contributed to a public consultation looking at the areas that should be protected.

The government has given councils the option to freeze council tax again, but many are concerned that this will lead to budget shortfalls in future years.

In the draft budget, the bulk of the savings come from adult community services and culture and the environment.

Children's services would have to save one million pounds, with transport and housing receiving more protection
