Council bosses to discuss buying Home Park

Council bosses will discuss the option of buying Home Park next week.

A report will be presented to the cabinet about the possibility of the council purchasing the freehold on a commercial basis.

Council leader Vivien Pengelly issued a statement last month stating the importance of having a football club in Plymouth.

In it, she said the city council would consider buying Home Park if it would help secure the club's future.

The report, which will go before cabinet members next Monday, says any purchase would be subject to appropriate due diligence checks - and needs council approval.

It also details the economic value of Plymouth Argyle to the city, which the university estimates to be between £9m and £12m pounds per year.

The alternative is for the city council to take no action but the report says that would limit the chance to protect the ground and the club.
