Council accused of 'burying' incinerator decision

The city council's being accused of trying to bury a decision on plans to build a waste incinerator in Devonport.

City planners are due to discuss the proposals three days before Christmas but a motion will be put to the full council today calling for a change of date.

The location of the plant at North Yard has sparked strong opposition but the council is convinced it is the best location and burning rubbish to make energy is seen as necessary to avoid landfill taxes in the future.

The motion today is from Councillor Bill Stephens and seconded by Nicky Wildy - she sees no alternative to a change of date.
