Consultation launched on whether nuclear subs should be dismantled in Plymouth

A Plymouth MP says he wants to ensure the city doesn't just become a place where nuclear submarines are dismantled.

A public consultation has been launched today on whether the submarines should be decommissioned in Plymouth - the MOD needs to dismantle those that aren't being used  because it will soon run out of places to store them.

At the moment ths subs are based at both Devonport and Rosyth in Scotland.

Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Oliver Colvile wants to ensure the dockyard continues to get nuclear work, but has said the storage of nuclear waste is an issue that must be considered very carefully.

Anti nuclear campaigners say theycbelieve there could be health risks and that it won't create many jobs.
