Conference marks centenary of Captain Scott's expedition to the Antarctic

A major conference marking the centenary of Plymouth born explorer Captain Scott's final expedition to the Antarctic begins at the University of Plymouth today.

As well as plays, musical performances and a talk from local polar explorer Antony Jinman, some of the descendants of Scott's party will also be involved.

Early next year Jinman will lead an expedition to the Antarctic, where a memorial service will be held at the Plymouth explorer's final resting place.

Jules Evans is the grandson of Scott's second in command, Lieutenant Evans, who survived the final expedition. He has composed some music about the expedition and will be perfoming at the University this lunchtime.
