City service personnel need more financial help, says Royal British Legion

It's claimed Plymouth's service personnel may still need more financial help despite the news that the military covenant is to be enshrined in law.

It was revealed this week that thirty million pounds worth of grants are to be made available to support veterans, state schools with high numbers of service children are to be given more money and that members of the armed forces will be given council tax relief.

The Royal British legion says with the loss of military hospitals and some of the so called 'married quarters' in the city, new support networks need to be put in place.

Roger Garratt is the deputy chair of Devon's royal british legion - he says the government does need to make sure veterans are financially comfortable and that a review of basic salaries is needed.
