City's rail links are on government's radar, says business secretary

The Business secretary has said the government will look to invest in Plymouth's rail links when it has the resources to do so.

Yesterday Plymouth was left out of plans to expand the electrification of the rail network announced in the Chancellor's budget - the changes will largely affect the North of England.

The city also wasn't mentioned in the first wave of cities to get further investment in superfast broadband, although it could feature in the second.

The Chamber of Commerce in Plymouth described it as a disappointing budget.

Business secretary Vince Cable told Radio Plymouth the city's links with London are on their radar. Having travelled to Cornwall on the train a lot, Mr Cable says the journey is 'beautiful but slow' so as resources become available it's an area they'd like to work on.
