City representatives of the National Union of Teachers attend national conference

Plymouth's Teaching Unions haven't ruled out taking strike action over the government's proposed changes to pensions.

City representatives of the national union of teachers will be joining members from all over England and Wales for a conference in Harrogate over the next few days.

Top of the agenda, will be pensions. The government's proposing basing a teacher's pension scheme on their average career wage instead of final salary.

Unions will also call for an end to the academies programme, which they say will not improve exam results.

Several of Plymouth's schools have become academies over the past year. U

nions argue taking control away from the Local education authority is disrupting the whole education service.
