Carers meet to discuss closure of respite centre once again

Families who campaigned against the closure of a Plymouth respite centre say they will keep fighting for their rights.

The welby unit at Peverell for people with learning disabilities is closing on Thursday and carers and patients are meeting today to discuss the changes to care services.

Carers argue many still don't have anything in writing to say they have a place at an alternative centre.

Others don't qualify for help at any other centre, but have been given personal care budgets which they say are confusing.

The meeting will be held at one o'clock at the Wolseley community centre on Wolseley road.

The city council has said the Welby building is not fit for purpose and that they will not leave patients without alternative support.
