Campaigners say fight goes on against incinerator

Campaigners against a waste incinerator at Devonport are vowing to continue their fight - despite the fact city councillors have given it planning permission.

The plans were debated for six hours yesterday - the process was watched by around a hundred protesters.

The plant will deal with waste from Plymouth, Torbay and Devon - if the environment agency also give it the go ahead.

But campaigners still believe the emissions would have an impact on the traffic levels, views and would be harmful to their health.

The plans have been approved subject to a section 106 agreement.

Part of that agreement is that MVV will pay 150-thousand pounds a year to a community fund for the lifetime of the facility.

The company says emissions are below legal levels and that people don't need to be concerned about their health.
