Businesses invited to better rail link talks

Plymouth businesses are being urged to join the campaign for better rail links to the city.

Two weeks ago, Plymouth's rail task force was launched to lobby for more three hour services to London, the refurbishing of rolling stock and the reopening of the branch line to Tavistock.

It's estimated that with every one hundred minutes travelling time from London, business productivity drops by six per cent.

Firms are currently bidding to operate the rail franchise in the west of Britain from April next year.

Chair of Plymouth's Chamber of Commerce David Parlby says they're not necessarily saying it should change hands but are interested to see what the bidders come up with.

Businesses are invited to attend a meeting at the Royal Western Yacht club at 12noon but you do need to have booked your place in advance.
