Bus cuts could impact city's economy, says city councillor

Cutting more bus services in Plymouth will have a detrimental effect on the city's economy, according to labour councillors.

Citybus plan to scrap five routes (the 45, 46, 47, 46S and 47S) - some from as early as April.

Bosses say the services are making losses of hundreds of thousands of pounds per year and that it's not practical to continue running them.

Labour councillor Nicky Williams says cutting them will mean many people can't get to work and may be forced to quit their jobs. She says she's also received letters from parents concerned that their children won't have a direct bus route to their school.

The city council says it's looking into whether it can support any of the services that are to be cut but that they must ensure value for money.
