Accommodation for injured troops goes to planners

Proposals for a new accommodation block for injured service personnel at Devonport Dockyard go to city planners today.

The building would support members of HASLER company, providing medical and emotional support for service men and women recovering from injury or serious illness.

A temporary accommodation block was opened at HMS Drake last month, but the planned 72 bed unit has always been the ultimate aim.

There would also be space for classrooms and interview rooms.

The planning application states that as the nearest houses are on the other side of Saltash Road, it should not have a negative impact on nearby residents.

The main accommodation block would be four storeys high.

The report recommends that planners grant approval.
