Bickleigh based 42 Commando said goodbye to loved ones as they deployed to operations in afghanistan last night.

Plymouth marines have been deploying in stages over the last few weeks and this is the final group to go.

The unit will remain in afghanistan for six months with the first expected to return mid october.

A parade will be held on November 11th in Plymouth city centre to welcome the local troops back.
