281 posts to go at Derriford Hospital

More than 280 posts are to be axed at Derriford hospital.

It's part of plans to save thirty one million pounds over the next year - seventeen million of that must come from pay.

The Plymouth hospitals NHS Trust says it will do its best to avoid compulsory redundancies.

145 of the posts going will be in nursing, although there are already 130 nursing vacancies at the hospital.

The rest of the posts are largely in back office roles.

The trust also plans to treat more patients as day cases and only to see people in a clinic when it's absolutely necessary.
