Labour Leader visits Devonport to discuss Fire Safety

Jeremy Corbyn met with Emergency Services

Representatives from the Fire Service and Union and Police were in attendance at Devonport Live on George Street to stress fears over what's being done to protect the city's residents - almost 12 months on from the Grenfell Disaster.

Talks focused on the dangers posed by flammable cladding on the three huge Devonport tower blocks - all of which have the material similar to Grenfell.

Mr Corbyn also spoke about issues including the city’s need for more social housing, the future of the defence industry - which faces cuts, transport links and even the forthcoming Royal wedding.

Here he is speaking to reporters after - including our News Editor Sam Cook.
