'Don't panic' message to city retailers

The recent string of national store failures is continuing to hit Plymouth. However, business leaders are remaining upbeat.

The South West Business Council is advising traders in the city to stay calm as the House of Fraser announces it is closing its city branch. The bad news continued yesterday with Poundworld going into administration. There is no news yet on whether there will be store closures and job losses.

Tim Jones is chairman of the SW Business Council and believes that the House of Fraser site will not be difficult to refill. He believes it is a great location for anything from a collection of small stores to a hotel and extra accommodation above the main store.
