Results day has finally arrived and students across Devon and Cornwall are celebrating their achievements, looking forward to starting college or university.
For those who haven’t got the grades they were expecting, or are not sure of what to do next, City College Plymouth is offering free careers advice and guidance on the options available.
Mike Jones, Employability & Enterprise Manager at the College, said: “This is a crucial time for young people. It’s important they are aware that if they don’t get the grades they expected, help is at hand! There are alternatives to staying in school, even if they don’t achieve GCSE grade Cs for English and maths. They can work towards gaining these qualifications alongside a full-time study programme at the College.”
There are lots of choices available, and young people do not have to stay in school until they are 18. City College Plymouth offers clear routes of progression from vocational training and BTECs (equivalent to three A Levels) straight through to university-level Foundation Degrees.
The College works closely with City employers to ensure that their vocational courses and training are aligned to the latest sector requirements and facilities. With options covering key development industries for Plymouth, you can study a course that WILL get you a job.
City College also offers a varied Apprenticeship programme, with success rates 15% above the national average. Covering subjects from hairdressing to engineering and offering progression right up to university-level, Apprenticeships enable young people to study and earn a wage. You can earn up to £14,000 a year with a City College Apprenticeship, whilst gaining industry connections, work experience and a nationally recognised qualification.
So, whatever your exam results, City College can help you to plan for your future and take the next steps towards employment or further study.
City College is inviting you to be part of it! Come along to the free results advice sessions on Friday 14 and 21 August, 10.00am - 1.00pm at Kings Road.
