When do you broadcast?
Radio Plymouth has undertaken two trial broadcasts, in the summers of 2003 and 2004. The last one was for 28 days, the maximum allowed by OFCOM for a trial broadcast. We were on the air for 24 hours a day, and transmitted to the city on 106.6FM.
Ofcom received 2 applications for this licence, and announced that Radio Plymouth had won on the 22nd of July 2008. It is our intention to be on the air within twelve months.
What will your programmes sound like?
Radio Plymouth will be a full service radio station aimed at everyone in Plymouth in general but in particular to the 25 - 54 age group. A broad selection of great music with plenty of local news, information and comment.
What sort of music will you play?
Anything and everything that is popular and tuneful! From M-People, The Lighthouse Family and The Stones to great classical pieces during the British Firework's Championship. There will be plenty of Motown, some great Jazz and music from the shows. Local music will also play an important part of our output.
Where are your studios and transmitter sited?
For our last trial broadcasts in the summer of 2004, our studios and offices were based at Deep Blue Sound, Bretonside in Plymouth. From there our programmes were beamed to Staddon Heights high above the City. Our 25W transmitter then radiated the signal out over the majority of Plymouth and the outlying areas.
On RDS radio's, "PLYMOUTH" appeared in the display screens.
Radio Plymouth will find full time premises and broadcast on a more powerful transmitter than that authorised for the trial broadcast.
